A power of attorney can terminate in several ways. One way to terminate a power of attorney is to revoke it. It should be done in writing by the person who created the power of attorney. Another way for a power of attorney to terminate is upon the death of the person who made the power of attorney, it terminates immediately upon their death. In some circumstances a court can also terminate a power of attorney, for example in a guardianship or an elder abuse proceeding.
