I heard that I am only allowed to keep $50 of income if I am in a nursing home. Is that true?

No. You’re actually allowed to keep more than $50 per month. You’re allowed to keep $105 of your income per month, if you’re in a nursing home as your personal needs allowance. You can spend that any way that you’d like to. In addition, if you’re a wartime veteran, then you can apply for the veterans’ aid and attendance program and get an additional $90 per month that you can keep while you’re in the nursing home.
