The look back period for Medicaid planning for nursing home is 5 years. The state looks back and sees if you have made any uncompensated transfers to anyone during that period. For example, a $10,000 gift to a child may be okay for tax purposes, but would count as a transfer normally for Medicaid eligibility purposes.
