Where is probate handled?

Probate is generally handled in the state and county where the decedent lived. For example, if they lived in Clay County, Florida their probate proceeding will be filed in Clay County, Florida. Occasionally there can be an ancillary probate which is an out of state probate. That is if the person owned property in another state and you have to file that in the county where that property is located.
