Will Medicare pay for a stay at a nursing home?
Video Transcript
No, Medicare will not pay for a stay at a nursing home; however, Medicare can help pay for a stay at a rehab facility. If you’re admitted into the hospital for three days or more, and then you go to a rehab facility, Medicare will pay for the first twenty days of that rehab facility, and then for the next eighty days, Medicare will pay 80% of that cost. That is if you’re actually improving as you’re in the rehab facility.
If you actually have to transfer from the rehab facility to a skilled nursing facility, then you will have to go on the Medicaid program to receive assistance with those cost.
