What does it mean to fund a trust?

When you fund a trust, you are titling an asset to that trust. The trustee of the trust will then direct what happens to that asset. Assets can be funded during your lifetime, or even upon your death. We generally try to avoid use of the will, which means probate to the trust, but we do use that as the backstop or fail-safe of any trust plan.
