The Importance of Advance Directives

We’re often asked by clients how they can make sure that their personal care and financial decisions are made the way they want them to be be managed if they are not able to make them for themselves due to incapacity or illness. Our answer is that in addition to designating a Health Care Surrogate and a Durable Power of Attorney, it is important to communicate with surrogates and attorneys-in-fact so that they know what the principal would want decided in various health care and financial issues.
