The Dog Days of Summer: A Great Time for Estate Planning

We are definitely in what are referred to as the “Dog Days” of summer here in northeast Florida.
As this very hot and humid summer is moving along, many of us are enjoying the typical rituals of celebrating holidays, going on vacations to the beach or mountains, and attending weddings and other celebrations with our family and friends. Some of us are seeing the young adults in our lives getting ready to start or return to school for fall semester, and many of us are also preparing for the fall and holidays as we see how quickly time passes.
Just as the seasons of the year seem to pass so quickly, we’re also seeing the seasons of our lives change as we witness rites of passage from graduations, marriages starting off, and retirements. Life does, indeed, seem to move pretty fast.
One of the best things we can all to to prepare for the inevitable changing seasons in our lives is to establish and update our Estate Plans. This is one of the most important and loving things that we can do for ourselves and our loved ones.
Many of our clients have shared with us that they enjoy the privacy and flexibility of establishing a Revocable Living Trust, which is an excellent way to manage property and other assets during their lifetime and to transfer them to loved ones after death without probate. You can also modify or terminate a Revocable Trust if needed. Another benefit of a Revocable Trust is that it can designate your wishes regarding care in the event of your becoming incapacitated. Revocable Trusts help clients plan for their lifetime care needs, families’ futures, and the transfer of assets after death. Many clients also add asset protection features for their future trust beneficiaries.
By making your wishes clear, and having these important documents in place, you can relieve stress and anxiety for your loved ones during a crisis. Proper Estate Planning will also help them better manage in the event of your death. It truly is a gift of love that benefits everyone in your family, and the positive impact this planning will have in the future cannot be overstated.
